Opposites attract, and astrological oppositions are seeking integration. But what could seem more opposite at times than our heads and our hearts? An age old conundrum… people try to strike a balance between logic and dreams, inspiration vs. practicality, responsibility vs. recreation.
How beautiful that at the beginning of the year we have a Full Moon in the heart centered, emotionally intelligent, “in touch with our true feelings” sign of Cancer. Here we seek empathy, and receive it, here we allow the Great Mother to wrap her generous arms around us and pull us close, and we are comforted. Here we focus on roots, home, family, and belonging. We heal.
Jupiter is also in this sign, signaling that the path towards renewed hope in life begins by being in touch with our feelings. If we listen, they guide us. With a Full Moon in Cancer, we’re meant to feel A LOT. Tears are welcome in this water sign. So is deep gratitude, and anything else in between. Jupiter likes to magnify whatever it touches. What we focus on will increase. With Jupiter in Cancer, practicing feeling gratitude is an effective pathway to healing.
With the Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars all in Capricorn this means there’s a lot of energy in opposition to the Moon. This Full Moon, I think many of us may feel big feelings that appear contradictory to “common sense”, or are seemingly at odds with our circumstances and relationships. Even “inconvenient” feelings need room to be acknowledged. Or perhaps our circumstances and relationships will produce strong emotion within us.
Something I’m learning is to pause more frequently throughout the day and ask myself “what am I feeling now?” What I learn when I stop to tune in helps me to navigate the circumstances of my life with more peace and grace. It’s such a simple and valuable practice.
Please, with this Full Moon, take time to pause and tune in… our feelings, even the ones that are so tender, are meant to guide us through this next chapter. The big decisions, the really important ones, take common sense into account, and then are made with our hearts. This is how we find the balance.
The Moon in Cancer informs us of what we’re feeling and needing so that we can choose a direction. The Sun in Capricorn supports the discipline it takes to implement practical steps that move us forward and create our reality. Manifestation, in a nutshell.
This Full Moon, I hope we all are blessed with sacred time with those that we love. I hope we all find reason to feel gratitude. Most of all, I hope we all create the space within to tend to our own hearts ~ feeling, and healing.
