Musings On... the Full Moon in Virgo 2023

Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 2:40 am Hawaii Time

There are BIG energetic changes on the horizon! This Full Moon is helping us wrap up some of what’s done, and put into motion our dreams for the future.

On the day of the Full Moon, Saturn enters Pisces, challenging us to overcome any obstacles that hinder our creative processes, and to work diligently towards our dreams.

Between now and the next new Moon we’ll celebrate the Spring equinox as the Sun moves into the sign of Aries on March 20. New beginnings! New growth! New Life!

Pluto is wrapping us its time in Capricorn, helping us to dismantle any remaining structures that aren’t serving our healing and growth.

Keeping these energies in mind as a backdrop, let’s take a look at the Full Moon in Virgo. Standing in opposition to not only the Sun, but a whole line up of planets in Pisces and Aries, this Full Moon plans to be felt! Virgo: the servant, the craftsperson, the analyst. The Moon, motivated by these archetypes, brings our attention to what we are working on or towards at this time. What skillsets are we cultivating? What gifts can we refine and polish to offer to the world? Practical, useful, and helpful, Virgo intends to make a difference for the better! It has a work ethic like no other, and a propensity towards growth through continual self-analysis and effort. It can also tend to be its own worst critic, or offer uninvited critiques to others as a projection of inner dissatisfaction. These are the shadows of this sign. Oh, and one more… Capable Virgo can tend to say “yes” too much, become overloaded, and then adopt a martyr complex, feeling bitter about being overworked and under-appreciated.

Having mentioned both the high and low roads of Virgo… but I’d like to aim towards the high expression, and I imagine you would too,so while being cautious of the shadows, let’s focus on two ways this energy can be utilized harmoniously during this Full Moon.

1. Virgo makes manifest in the material world that which originates in the spirit. The Sun in Pisces is warming our creative, imaginative, and spiritual fires these days. That can feel great! But without Virgo, it might simply remain a feeling. Virgo invigorates us towards practical manifestation. Have a novel brewing inside? Sit down and start putting the first chapter to pen and paper! What are your creative gifts? How would you like to share them? What are your dreams? How can you actualize them? Virgo motivates us towards the means.

2. Growth. I mentioned this above… Virgo is happiest with its sleeves rolled up, getting down to work. It helps us to look inward, and take an honest assessment of where we stand vs where we want to be. Then, humbly, and without pretense, it simply gets to work. With the Sun in Pisces opposing the Moon, this is an opportunity for a leap in spiritual and creative growth. (Piscean themes).

  • I was recently introduced to a concept I’d never before considered in depth, but it left a profound impression, and feels relevant here. Our growth can given as an offering. Think of that for a moment. It is a blessing to offer our growth upon the altar of the Divine. So too, are we, and the rest of the world blessed. Consider personal growth as a beautiful offering.

Closely square an out of bounds Mars in Gemini, there’s an in between step in our process that cannot be ignored. It may cause a bit of friction. In order to reach the fullest potential offered by this planetary configuration we will be asked to face any perceptions that we unknowingly carry that hinder our growth. This can appear as fear, anger, anxiety... Circumstances may allow these to bubble up so that they can be felt, given room to breathe, and released. Mars asks us to have the courage to parse the truth from our perceptions, and speak it into being.

As the Sun inches closer to Neptune (conjunction March 15), and Mercury inches closer to the Sun (conjunction March 17), pay attention to dreams and synchronistic messages that come through to offer support. This can be a beautiful time of healing, when past wounds can offer wisdom and insight that increase our faith (Jupiter conjunct Chiron in Aries). Again, we’re wrapping up a dismantling process as Pluto finishes its time in Capricorn, and prepares to enter Aquarius. Fresh new energy is about to pour in!

I’ll close with one more thought.. With this Virgo Moon trining Uranus and the North Node in Taurus, making room for stillness, silence, and time to feel the wisdom of the body will create the space needed for all of these beautiful Lunar gifts to unfold.

Wishing you all the very best, and a healthy, happy Full Moon. Scroll down for significant dates and a chart of the Full Moon.
